Prepare for Attack Avoidance

By Steve Thibeault

We all know that it is a dangerous world, but this should not stop us from going about our lives. If we use a modicum of common sense and think about certain principles, we should be able to enjoy our time here without fear of others. After all, we have as much right to be here as anyone else and should use our time to its best effect! If we feel vulnerable or in any case, we should think about attack avoidance to make sure that we are safe.

Desperate people exist in our society today and they seem to target those who are more frail. They think that people who are younger, a lot older or female would be more of a pushover for their unwanted attentions. Whatever group of people you can categorize yourself within, attack avoidance is a priority and you should make sure that you do everything you can to do this.

Fitness is very important, as we all tend to lead rather sedentary lives. Sometimes it is not easy for us to get our daily 30 minutes of exercise indoors and we may not have room for a treadmill or gym. When you get out on the street for exercise, make sure that you choose a route that is heavily trafficked where all possible. It is best if you choose a known jogging trail that is not remote and has plenty of other participants. If not, choose a road that is well lit and has a lot of vehicular traffic.

Whenever you go out and especially if you fall into one of the more vulnerable groups, always travel with someone else. If your daily forays involve exercise, this is a good time to strike up a relationship with someone who has similar goals and make sure that you do this together. It is amazing how this can help in your goal of attack avoidance and deter other would-be criminals.

If, for one reason or another, you must travel alone, displaying the right attitude and confidence can be remarkably effective in attack avoidance. Many criminals are just looking for random opportunities and make snap decisions as to who to assault. Portray an aura of self confidence and determination and this might just be enough.

A dog can be a great companion, both in the home and out. Get your daily exercise by walking the dog and many would-be attackers will think twice before accosting you, even if the dog is relatively small. It takes a rather desperate individual to risk being bitten.

There are many self-defense devices that you can carry these days and these are the ultimate weapons in attack avoidance. Carry pepper spray or even a taser and make sure that it is very handy, should you be caught by surprise. Often just showing a would-be attacker that you have one of these items would be enough.

When it comes to crimes against the person, you can make sure that you are not on the list. Remember to travel with somebody else if you can, never venture down dimly lit streets and research what self-defense device options are available to you. Attack avoidance means being prepared.
