Universal Health Care

By Kalvin Ethan

Health insurance is one of the most debated topics in the country today. The President and Congress continue to work on how to provide health insurance for all Americans, including the millions currently without health insurance, while not increasing the financial deficit of the country. Of the millions without insurance, many have been trying to find avoidable coverage. Under the current heath insurance structure, this is an almost impossible task, and many individuals and families are being forced to live without the coverage they desperately.

There are too many cases of individuals and families in America today that are being forced to live without the medicine they need to get healthy and/or remain healthy. In addition to all of those who cannot afford the medicines they need, there are numerous cases of people who cannot afford necessary surgeries. Americans should not have to choose between paying rent and buying food for their families, or paying for the medical treatments they need.

The U.S. government already has health care programs in place to assist those who do not meet certain income qualifications; however these programs do not cover all of those who need assistance. The new programs being proposed by the President and the Democrats in Congress are geared towards making sure that all Americans have health insurance, by ensuring that there are programs that everyone can afford, which will provide adequate coverage. A cheaper health insurance plan that does not provide any substantial coverage is not the answer to the problem.

There has been a system put together, by the Florida health insurance plans, that provide health insurance for all individuals that have been uninsured, including those individuals who have recently found themselves unemployed. A plan was devised among the Govern of Florida and the six major health insurance companies and now 3 million people have successfully been removed from the on growing list of individuals without health insurance coverage. This is a large accomplishment for Florida, and it gives the rest of Americans hope, that our Federal Government will also be able to provide health insurance for all, and in the near future.

We, as residents of the United States of America, need to make our voices heard! If we want a change we need to contact our local representatives, inform them that health insurance for all is our number one goal for the country, and that they must do whatever it takes to provide it for the millions in our country who go without medical coverage. Let them know that it will be reflected in the next vote, if this is not accomplished, after all we are the ones that elect them to make a difference, and there will be no excuse that is acceptable.
