The Story of Rajon Rondo

By Barry Hankast

1986 was just 23 years ago. In this short span, many great athletes have been born, grown up, and had huge impacts in today's sports world. Athletes are developing more quickly, and basketball is no exception.

1986 was also the year that Rajon Pierre Rondo was born. He was born on February 22 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was raised by his single mom, Amber Rondo. Rajon also grew up with two brothers, Dymon, and William.

Rondo entered the basketball world during his high school days, quickly establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with. During his junior year at Eastern High School, Rondo averaged over 27 points per game, over 10 rebounds per game, and 7 1/2 assists her game. Rondo switched schools for the sake of his basketball during his last year.

Rondo went so far as being named to the All-American high school team in 2004. During the All-Star game, he scored 12 points and stole the ball four times. While this was a memorable game, the real standout game for Rondo occurred during one game where he ended up with an amazing 31 assists.

Rondo was forced to choose between Louisville and Kentucky for college, and eventually opted to be a Wildcat. This proved to be a wise decision.

He quickly emerged as a top player at Kentucky, and in one game has pulled down 19 rebounds. A point guard did this. Rondo decided to leave school for the draft after two years.

In the 2006 NBA draft, Rajon Rondo was selected late in the first round with the 21st overall pick. The Phoenix Suns chose Rondo, who was later traded to the Celtics. During Rondo's first season in Boston, the team was all but competitive. However, a few key moves in 07-08 landed the team Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, and everything changed. Rondo was quickly an All-Star caliber point guard.

Rondo's defensive abilities, his rebounding, and his overall maturity are all rivaled by very few NBA point guards. As he matures and develops some more, there is no doubt that Rajon Rondo will prove to be one of the better point guards in the history of the league.
